Egyptian Hand-Painted Papyrus Artwork (Imported): Winged Isis from Seti's Tomb
Brand: Ramy
This papyrus is based on the wall painting of Isis spreading her wings in protection in the Tomb of Pharaoh Seti I in the Valley of the Kings. The name Isis means "Seat" or "Throne". In myth she sought her dead husband and brother, Osiris, conceived her son Horus by him, buried him and mourned him together with her sister Nephtys. Isis was regarded as the "Eye of Ra" and was worshipped as the "Great of Magic" who had protected her son Horus from snakes, predators and other dangers; thus she would protect mortal children also. In the New Kingdom Isis was closely connected with Hathor whose physical attributes, the cow's horns and sun-disk she adopted. Isis is the goddess of motherhood, magic and fertility, as well as the goddess of rebirth.
Egyptian Hand-Painted Papyrus Artwork (Imported): Anhai in the Hall of Ma'at Book of the Dead
Brand: Ramy
This scene is the Final Judgment in the Hall of Ma'at from the Anhai Papyrus. On the far right is Ma'at with Isis behind her. Anhai is being led by the Horus, the falcon-headed god. In the center of the scene, Anubis weighs the heart against the feather of Ma'at. On the left of the scale is the female demon Ammut, who will devour Anhai's soul if she is unworthy. The god Thoth on the far left is ready to record the verdict. At the top are gods acting as judges. Anhai was a woman of high rank, possibly a priestess, who died around 1100 BC. One of her titles was "Chantress of Amun." The Anhai Papyrus is one of most intricately illustrated papyri of the Book of the Dead. It measures 14 feet, 6 inches. It is currently housed in the British Museum.
