Celebrate Rustic Wall Art Mixed Media Collage - Spark It!

Celebrating a person or an occasion or just life in general - all these were on my mind when I created this intimate collage of a heartburst candle. It's about being happy for any or no reason at all. I layered and pieced a variety of fabrics here: semi-sheers, "silk", and denim. This was then embellished with lace and lots of exuberant embroidery using different weights of threads to build up texture. As the final touch I added clusters of iridescent beads to the heart "rays". This collage is 5" x 7" but comes mounted on a white fabric background as that extra "blank" space really makes it pop in an 8" x 10" frame. No glass is necessary as it would smoosh the raised surface. The provided cardboard cushion not only protects during shipping but also gives the extra depth needed in a glassless frame.
