I also think that my metal art has much more character than those cut by machines. I believe that a hand made gift is always preferred to something machine made (but maybe that's just me). I'm really enjoying the freedom to delve deeper into metal art and exploring new techniques. A recent trip to local sales resulted in the purchase of a quantity of hand saws. Each item is a one of a kind piece of art. The original art is hand drawn and then scanned into our CAD software. We cut the steel with a CNC plasma-cutter. Then we use reclaimed wood for the back of the metal. The steel has a patina applied to the surface, which will react differently each time so there will never be two pieces the same. Once it is assembled, we apply a thin coat of sealant to the piece and then install a cable hanger on the back. It will come shipped via UPS Ground in heavy cardboard packaging. My mixed media work is on a masonite panels. I use collage materials from my photographs taken around the world as well as my drawings. The subject matter in the photographs is architectural details. The subject of the drawings is floral. In making my limited editions, the last step in my process is adding unique one-of-a-kind embellishments. These are 3-D dots of glitter paint on the surface. These catch light and dazzle the eye.
