This tiny handmade triptych is meant to encourage hope and perseverance in anyone going through an unsettled or difficult time. Meant to be placed by a bedside or on a desk, the piece carries the simple mantra, "Pray, Hope, Don't Worry," which helps push one out of the present anxiety and toward thoughts of peace. I designed and carved the original of this tiny triptych. It is freestanding and has designs on both sides. I cast it in lead-free pewter. The front of the piece shows Padre Pio releasing a dove, symbol of peace, as he is surrounded by angels. The back has his signature words of counsel, "Pray, Hope, Don't Worry." The piece comes boxed with a history card that states the following: ""Padre Pio (1887-1968) was an Italian priest who had a huge influence as a spiritual guide and healer. Thousands came to him each year to be blessed and healed. As the years went by and more and more people asked for his counsel and direction, he distilled his advice into a series of simple suggestions, telling people that the way to liberation was to 'Pray, Hope, and Don't Worry.' It has become a helpful mantra to many people who are searching for meaning and peace. This small triptych was designed, carved, cast, and copyrighted by Hank Schlau at In the Company of Saints." I design, carve, and cast the pieces myself. I cast them in modified gypsum (a very strong building material) with bronze powder. The pieces come boxed, can stand or hang (there's a hook on the back), and can go outside. Each piece comes with a history card stating: "Cecilia was a fourth-century martyr. Her association with music and musicians stems from a story about her wedding feast. The story tells that Cecilia did not want to get married but was forced to by her parents and others who had power over her. At the celebration, as wedding music was playing, Cecilia tuned in to a higher level of art: she heard "celestial music," and thus became the patron of people with a sense of true music as an art that transcends the secular and mundane. Many performers-ranging from Luciano Pavarotti to Aaron Neville of New Orleans-have been known to ask St. Cecilia for guidance before they begin a performance. This plaque/niche was carved by Hank Schlau and was handpainted by Karen Schlau. The plaque, like many depictions of Cecilia over the last five hundred years, shows her playing a lute." Two quaking aspen (or birch) trees standing side by side, on reclaimed pallet boards with heart, initials and date. This is a hand painted wooden sign, made to resemble a real carved tree. Options: 1. You can choose to have the significant year (year you met, year you got married, etc.) in the heart with the initials, or you can have just the initials in the heart, with the full date outside of the tree. 2. You can choose natural wood or a darker brown stain (for a small additional fee). Both options will be sealed with a clear, non-yellowing satin varnish. This sign is made from individual pallet boards which are connected on the back and then hand painted with acrylic paint. Regardless of the board count, the overall size is about 16" x 12". There is a sturdy wire hanger on the back, so sign will hang well on a variety of surfaces, or also looks great as a standing item! Initials and date that you want "carved" into the tree. Each sign is just a little different, due to boards being one of a kind and hand painting.
