This prayer flag honors two great mystics of the early Christian Church: Julian of Norwich (1342-1416) is known for her benevolent vision of God in the 'Dark Ages'. This devotion is reflected in one of her best known quotes, "All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well." When Julian was thirty years old she became gravely ill and was given the sacrament of 'Last Rites'. On the seventh day of her illness, all pain left her and she had a series of visions. "...And in this he showed me something small, no bigger than a hazelnut, lying in the palm of my this little thing I saw three properties. The first is that God made it, the second is that God loves it, and the third is that God preserves it." Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179) was a Benedictine Abbess, Visionary, Herbalist and Composer. She was devoted to a God that was utterly loving and all wise. "God is the good and all things which proceed from Him are good." "God has arranged all things in the world in consideration of everything else." "The truly holy person welcomes all that is earthly." "Divinity is aimed at humanity." "Every element has a sound, an original sound from the order of God; all those sounds unite like the harmony from harps and zithers" The images on this prayer flag are block-printed and stamped by hand on each bright panel. They are made of a durable weight cotton poplin so they will not 'scrunch up' or tear in the wind. Our workshop is part of a community development project run by the Sisters of Charity (, for families with special needs children. This project supports several of these families and ALL of our proceeds go directly to the people making the prayer flags. Each strand of prayer flags consists of nine panels, each 6"-5", and the strand is approximately 54" long. They look great indoors or outdoors!
