As a child, exploring Florida's seagrass beds, which speckle the gulf coast, was always a favorite activity of mine. These seemingly endless fields of green swayed gently in the surge, as flickers of movement could be seen darting in and out of view; below glistening patches of sunlight reflecting off the smooth, shimmering surface. Dip below the surface, and you find yourself immersed in a world filled with life. These seagrass beds not only provide a home for hundreds of species of marine life, but also serve as a nursery for some of the larger marine species of the open ocean.
