1895 Old Photograph of American Blacks In Liberia African Clergy
Manufacturer: Global Art
Brand: Global Art
This photograph shows a Protestant Episcopal bishop and clergy in Liberia in 1895. The photograph was taken by the American Colonization Society. The society was founded in 1816 to assist free black people in emigrating to Africa. It was the brainchild of the Reverend Robert Finley, a minister from Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Finley believed that blacks would never be fully integrated into American society and that they would only be able to fulfill their potential as human beings in Africa, the "land of their fathers". He saw colonization as a charitable work, one that would benefit American blacks and Africans alike through the spreading of Christianity to Africa. He also thought that it would prompt a gradual end to slavery. The photograph is printed using Epson premium glossy archival paper. The detail on the printed photograph is excellent. Our photographs originate from the National Archives, various federal archives as well as state and city historical archives here in the Pacific Northwest and our own collection of vintage and antique photographs and maps. Additionally, we have agreements to reproduce privately held items. In most instances we scan the photographs, maps or negatives at 800+dpi and produce a digital file that is used for producing prints. 8"x10" photographs are shipped in a heavy mailer. Photographs larger than 8"x 10" are rolled and placed in a protective plastic sleeve and then into a rigid tube that is of a larger diameter than the sleeve. This ensu...
