King Silk Art makes silk embroidery wall art, 100% hand-stitched by Master Artists in Suzhou, China. Our artwork, Susho, is completely natural, created with tiny needles and pure silk thread. Susho is a 2500 year old family tradition, with a unique and fascinating history.
This inspiration for this Susho® is an oil painting by a contemporary artist named Honghai Pan. Pan was born in Shanghai in 1942. Although his education was in art, specifically oil painting, for twenty years, Pan worked in publishing as an editor and journalist. In the late 80s he decided to devote himself to his original love, oil painting. His work has won prizes all over the world and appears in collections in China's finest museums.
In this image, a beautiful bride is dressing up for her big day. Traditional Chinese bridal gowns are deep red. Symbolically, the color red is good luck in China, a strong color that drives away evil spirits and attracts good fortune.
The back of the mirror the bride is using has a red print of double happiness, which is a symbol for the unity of two happy people. Brides from southern China usually wear two-piece dress named Qun Gua, Kwa or Cheongsam, also elaborately adorned with golden phoenix and dragon. Later on, the bride will add the second layer to complete the look.
