Color: White

A contemporary and urban style mixed media collage with photos, words and acrylic paint, with a glossy finish. Several words can be clearly seen: imagine, also play, pure and driven by desire. The painting is a vibrant, colourful and playful piece. Highlights of gold paint and gold leaf and a few hints of neon pink and orange, over a predominantly blue base. The edges are painted dark indigo blue, and it is ready to hang - no frame required.

Building on the architectural origins, which have been the basis of my work for over a decade, I have started referring to my compositions as random symmetry. That is, creating a balance on the canvas with no discernible pattern allowing a symmetrical, meditative composition to emerge. I employ the golden mean as a reference, which can often be seen in the composition. I use oil paint with a cold wax medium, layering the paint, as organic surfaces evolve within the restrained lines of the composition. During the process an environment develops giving an emotional story to the thoughtfully planned out compositions. My color choices vary, sometimes deliberating creating a series with particular color decisions and sometimes allowing the color choices to impulsively appear fueled by intuition and experience. Color remains a constantly unfolding mystery.

This work has a lot of depth and layers to it due to the encaustic and my application techniques.My grounded series uses pages from old psychology books, mainly those of Carl Jung, James Hillman and Fritz Perls. Using collage, encaustic (wax), image transfers and paint, I explore the writings and theories as well as how nature, myth, and archetypes can capture and connect to our deeper purpose and desires. As James Hillman stated, the tree suits our notion of personality growth, and indeed appears as a spontaneous metaphor for the imperceptible expansion from seed to fullness.This painting is on a cradled wood panel with finished black edges.
