Break free collection - bookends with a 10th century Samanid arabesque design. These beautiful enchanting green bookends have been designed with inspiration from the design of a 10th century Samanid arabesque pattern originally found on a medieval earthenware dish currently in the David Collection in Copenhagen. The center of the original dish has a hare in its center. Our hares have "broken free" from the design in our Break Free collection series - a concept which celebrates the individualism and tradition at the same time. The vintage brass hares used in the piece date to the 1960's. Let these one-of-a-kind home or office decor bookends make an interesting and elegant addition to your space. #Lovewins and #Lovetrumpshate - We are proud to add these one of a kind handmade bookends to our store which were designed, woodburned, and painted by The Arabesque. These bookends were inspired by the epic mosaic panel depicting a lion and gazelles from the 8th century palace of Khirbat al-Majfar, an Umayyad palace near Jericho. In the original mosaic three gazelles are seen grazing under a tree when they are hunted and overpowered by a lion - an allegory to the lover's quest to win the favor of the beloved - since the gazelle represents beauty in Classical Arabic prose and poetry. We recreated the story as part of our #breakfree collection using woodburning, water colors, oil paint, and vintage woodcarved gazelle figurines. In our version - which is part of our #breakfree collection, there is no lion eating these gazelles - they are empowered as they dominate this reimagined epic scene. The base of these bookends is 6 x 8 x 1 inches. The side of the bookends measures 6 x 9 x 1 inches.

This folded book art was made from a gently used hard cover book tiled "Towers of Midnight" by Robert Jordan & Brandon Sanderson, showing a 3-D sculpture like design of the word "Teacher" within an apple. The book height is 9.5" (24 cm), the tallest part of the letter is 1.75" (4.5 cm). The tallest part of the apple design is 6.5" (16.5 cm). It has 868 folded pages.None of the original book pages were cut way.This very unique artwork will certainly be a conversation piece whether it's displayed at home or in an office, and will make a great present for a deserving teacher.I'll also make custom order books with your choice of words, names, initials or dates, contact me for details.

Hand blown glass otter figurine is a delightful and imaginative collectible sculpture. Artist is Kevin Prochaska, Disneyland glass blower for 10 years. This playful otter floats on its back so that it can use its ample tummy as a table for its dinner. I am always fascinated by a creature's unique adaptations and try to present them in an imaginative way. I make the sculpture entirely by hand from borosilicate crystal. The brilliant rainbow of colors is created when I apply pure gold to the glass while it is still molten. Sea otter is 3 inches long and 2 inches wide. Your purchase includes a lovely information card trimmed with gold foil.
