The cat (meeou-in hieroglyphs) was a pet, as well as a symbol for the goddess Bastet. It was considered to be a sacred and a protective animal, because of its skill of catching mice. This cat has a collar with the Eye of Horus (Wadjat), which stood for protection, strength, and perfection. Bastet was the goddess of fire, cats, of the home and pregnant women. According to one myth, she was the personification of the soul of Isis. The temple of the Pyramid of Khafra at modern-day Giza next to the Sphinx had a "Portal of Bastet" as well as statues of Bastet in the company of the king of Egypt as a symbol for the goddess Bastet. To the right is the Cartouche of King Tutankhamun. A cartouche is a drawing of an oblong or oval magica rope, within which are the hieroglyphics that represent the name of a King or Queen. The cartouche in this painting is the one that is most often associated with King Tut.
