The Animals of SE US. Tshirt by Tim Pinkston. This is a giant, thick, detailed piece. Many of the animals pictured reside in Florida and other southern states. The Florida panther, grey fox, great blue heron, osprey, alligator, pileated woodpecker, anhinga, bear, coral snake, gopher tortoise, red squirrel and deer are all pictured. I used crewel yarn, embroidery floss, metallic thread, sequins, beads, hand dyed and painted ribbons of silk, organza, and statin, various feathers, artificial moss, and dark brown bark, remnants of material etc. . This wall hanging is a feast for the eyes of shimmering, colorful full of life nature at its best. The Ribbon is pulled through the background fabric to make petals, leaves and stems. Please ignore the white specs in green foliage that is the reflection off shiny organza ribbon. There are no white specs in this work. I did use very light blue glistening, gleaming organza ribbon on top of pond in front center bottom to show reflection. The Stump part is where ribbon has padding under to make picture even fuller. . I painted artificial bark for alligators back. His teeth are mostly silver lined opal rainbow 11/0 seed beads. Ribbon embroidery and stumpwork originated in Medieval times. The Blue Herron's body is made of Ostrich feather's. The turtle is made from a quarts beads. This is a very three dimensional scene. Many of the leaves and animals are so full they stand out almost an inch from the artwork. Sometimes I have 4 needles of yarn, ribbon and floss in the work at one time, as it is necessary to complete the background before the foreground, (in the many places they overlap). I dyed much of the ribbon to get it to the right shade. I framed this on a thin oval wood. Then I took strips of the balance of the tshirt, dark green cotton, brown velveteen with pink zig zag embroidery and braided them together to make a frame for piece. It is glued and stapled to back with hanger ready to hang.
